"Rethink Your Drink" encourages healthier drink options - WJHG-TV

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - A new year brings new goals and for many that could mean new health goals. Heather Kretzer with the Bay County Health Department joined us in studio with tips for living a healthier lifestyle in 2020.

The theme for Tuesday morning was "Rethink Your Drink." Kretzer said it's important to think about drinks when trying to be healthier, not just food. Many sodas, energy drinks, ice coffee blends, and other drinks contain a lot of sugar. She said limiting sugary drinks can have a big impact on weight loss goals.

Kretzer provided these recipes to help spice up water and add some extra flavor. For more information, watch Jordan's interview.

Cucumber Mint Breeze
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sliced cucumbers
1-2 springs of fresh mint
Ice

Preparation:
1. Fill pitcher halfway with ice.
2. Add sliced cucumbers and mint.
3. Fill with water. Chill for at least 20 minutes before serving.
4. Store in refrigerator and drink within 24 hours.

Kiwi Berry Blend
Ingredients:
1-2 kiwis, sliced or cut in chunks
2 cups strawberries, cut in half

Preparation:
1. Fill pitcher halfway with ice.
2. Add sliced kiwis and strawberries.
3. Fill with water. Chill for at least 20 minutes before serving.
4. Store in refrigerator and drink within 24 hours.

Flavor your water:
LOL Blend
1 Lemon, sliced
1 orange sliced
2 limes, sliced

Rosemary Watermelon
3 cups cubed, seeded, watermelon
2-3 springs rosemary, washed

Peachy Strawberry Medley
2 cups strawberries, cut in half
1 peach, pitted and cut in chunks

Preparation:
1. Fill pitcher halfway with ice.
2. Add fruit and prepared ingredients.
3. Fill with water. Chill for at least 20 minutes before serving.
4. Store in refrigerator and drink within 24 hours.

Serving Tips:
1.See the flavored- use a clear pitcher.
2.For a stronger flavor, cut the fruit into smaller pieces.
3. Drink within 24 hours.
