La. State Police are urging people to drink responsibly and don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking.
"We're not trying to dissuade you we just don't want you driving if you're impaired, one beer is one too many," said Trooper Michael Reichardt, LSP Troop F.
Bar owners are also doing their part to keep their customers safe, even if that means stepping up and lending a hand.
"We stop serving and we'll even offer them a ride home, get them a ride home, I've taken people home before. We do whatever it takes to take care of our customers,” said Ron Long, the owner of Braiz’n Bar and Grill.
Long and his staff is certified under responsible vendor training to recognize when a customer has had too much to drink.
“That teaches them how to deal with people who’s come in, somebody's who had too much to drink," Long said.
According to a report from LSU, there were 292 alcohol-related crash deaths in the state last year.
LSP is encouraging people to use ride-sharing services and designated drivers in order to prevent that number from rising.
“There's too many ways to get home with a sober driver than you doing it yourself," Reichardt said.
